The Unholy Trinity

If you are a true believer, you know to answer to the Trinity—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—because scripture says they are the three entities of the Godhead. But there is another trinity ruled by an evil spiritual force.

The Mind, Heart, and Tongue are the three entities of the human body that control and govern man’s earthly actions. From birth, these three entities work against God's word because they are ignorant of God's principles and want to indulge in worldly desires.

Though we think we control what they do and how they function, a more potent force is vying for power behind the scenes. Apart from God, these three forces form an unholy trinity that seeks to destroy man for good.

Today, we will attempt to explore in detail how Satan, through the avenues of the heart, mind, and tongue, tries to control and separate man from God.

The Mind

“And be ye not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…” Romans 12:2-10 Image: Unsplash

Your mind acts as a megaphone to your spirit, amplifying the voices of two influences in your soul: God and Satan. You must choose between good and evil, right and wrong.

Deep down, man knows the difference between right and wrong. They, at least, are aware of each decision's significance. All that’s needed is a push in either direction, and Satan is there to give them that push. But often, he’ll push too hard and make the choice that much harder to ignore. When that happens, the right way of doing things becomes harder to see and, therefore, to choose.

God has a kinder influence, but changing depends on a person’s ability to recognize the value of choosing right over wrong. Some of us lack the patience or resolve to do so.

The Heart

“Keep thy heart with all dilligence, for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23 (Image: Unsplash)

Once a decision between good and evil is made, something must validate it. Remember the words of Romans 10: 9-10, especially verse 10, which clarifies the purpose of the heart: to BELIEVE UNTO righteousness. This means that the heart validates what the mind is considering. If the mind is filled with positive, peaceful, and joyous thoughts, the heart then validates those thoughts. Likewise, if your mind is filled with hatred, jealousy, envy, vanity, or lustful thoughts, your heart will validate that.

Here, we find an area of our spirits where extreme caution is needed because, as it says in Matthew 21:22, our minds and hearts work in direct alignment with our faith to begin to manifest or create the things that we hope to see - though they are not yet happening in the real world, they are happening right now in our minds. I’ll get to that in a moment.

Our desires are validated through the heart, and faith is born in their passion. But one thing keeps our desires from materializing: The Tongue.

The Tongue

“And the tongue is a fire: a world of iniquity…” James 3:6 (Image: Unsplash)

Once the mind conceives the desire and the heart validates it, the tongue then manifests or sets the desire it conceived into motion. Let it be known that the Bible clearly states that above all members of the body, it is the tongue that is most evil.

James 3:8 calls the tongue “an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.” But where does that poison come from?

To answer this question, Luke 6:45 directs our attention back to the heart. Again, apart from Jesus, the heart reflects ungodly thoughts from the mind down to the mouth. Once the now-validated desire fills the heart, the mouth (or, more correctly, the tongue) speaks that desire into existence - even if it does not happen immediately.

James also says that the tongue can’t be tamed. Don’t believe it? Just try to hold your tongue! The phrase “Hold your tongue” means more than physically taking control over its movement; it warns you to refrain from speaking things that could destroy you or someone else. Many of this world’s ugliest wars, protests, divorces, torments, and deaths were birthed by man’s inability to control their tongue.

Now more than ever, it is vital to guard your heart and mind by standing on the word of God and believing in his promises, and it’s crucial to bridle your tongue against speaking ungodly things into your life. Remember, Proverbs 18:21 says, “Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it will eat the fruit thereof.”

Ensure that your fruit is of God and not the enemy.
